Shu Yang (China)

Independent curator, critic and artist. Currently lives in Beijing, China.
Born 1969 in Xi’an, China. Got Bachelor degree in art in 1993 and Master degree in arts in 1996 from Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. Taught fine art in Architecture Department of Tianjin Institute of Urban Construction from 1996 to 1998. Became an independent curator from 1999 to now. To be a member of Beijing Paper Tiger Theater Studio since 2000. Was invited to teach on art history in Art & Design Academy of North China University of Technology in Beijing from 2000 to 2003. Worked as executive editor of Chinese contemporary art magazine Next Wave in 2001. Participated as independent curator of China-UK Arts Management Placement Programme at Visiting Arts in London and Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff in 2003. To be director of DaDao Live Art Festival from 2003 to 2009. Worked as chief-editor of art Magazine 798 Art Info and director of 798 Biennale 1 in 2005. To be planner of Lightning Factory, Beijing since 2007. To be director of DaDao Live Art Foundation since 2009. To be director of Eshu Art House, Songzhuang Art Village, Beijing. Participated the 67th Venice Film Festival for the film ‘Jia Bian Gou’ and Juror of the 10th Pingyao International Photography Festival in 2010. To be academic consultant of the 11th Pingyao International Photography Festival in 2011.
